Everybody likes to be safe. To help improve the road safety District superintendent of police (SP) Laxman Nimbargi has issued a circular to the traffic police, making the wearing of seatbelts mandatory for car drivers in the district. The decision came in after the demand from a general public citizen during a weekly phone-in programme. Along with this wearing of helmets by two-wheeler rider has already been strictly enforced by the police department.
The reasoning behind this is increased chance of survival due to wearing a safety belt. Wearing a safety belt in a car accident vs not wearing a safety belt can be the difference between life and death.
What if I don’t wear?
Don’t worry, if anyone found driving a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt would be violating the law and hence he would be booked. The police will fine Rs 100 for the first offense.
