St.Mary’s Islands, also known as Coconut Island off the coast of Malpe in Udupi to get floating jetty to boost tourism.
Deputy Commissioner, Priyanka Mary Francis on Tuesday said that Floating Jetty would be Installed in the St. Mary’s Island at a Budget of ₹2.26 Crore which makes it easier for the tourists who travel from Malpe to the Island.
Current Challange
Currently, tourists have to travel in a Big Boat near the Island and change over to a smaller boat mid-sea in order to reach the Island. A presence of jetty would make entry/exit to the island much more convenient. During Monsoon it would be possible to remove the jetty. Currently, without a jetty, it is very dangerous for the children and senior citizens to shifts Boats in the middle of the Sea, making the whole experience uncomfortable.
She also gave instructions for the Installation of CCTV Cameras and Building the Shelters and Watch Tower to the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd. (KRIDL).

Soon Watch Tower and Proper Lighting Facilities would be Provided.
