Who is MR Vasudeva?
Retired director of Airport Authority, M R Vasudeva was responsible for the upgradation of Mangalore Airport to international airport status, from “Concept to Operation”. He completed the project in record time despite heavy and difficult odds.
M R Vasudev added, “Dakshina Kannada is a jewel of the Konkan coast that has been neglected by the State Government and the Centre. I had to overcome innumerable obstacles in developing the Airport as a bureaucrat, with support coming from the State and Center in bits and pieces, and that too given after repeated requests.

So what next?
This success of public-private partnership (PPP) has brought six more airports under this scheme namely, Thiruvananthapuram, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, and Mangaluru.
these airports will no longer be in control of Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The employees working at the airport are apprehensive, as this happens to be the only airport under AAI at present in Karnataka. They are worried about likelihood of their transfer etc, as Air Traffic Control will alone be under the control of AAI once the transfer takes place.
The mangalore airport , which was incurring losses, has now been making profits, with new airport building, parallel taxiway, and other development works executed recently.
Is Mangaluru Getting a Second Airport?
Speaking at a symposium on air service and introduction to air cargo held at the auditorium of Kanara Chamber of Chamber and Industry (KCCI) on Saturday, August 25. D.K district deputy commissioner (DC) confirmed that there would not be a second airport.
Why will there be no second airport?
The current airport in the city is capable to handle the demand for the next 50 years. A Lot of agricultural products from Kasargod and Kodagu are being exported to the Gulf countries through this airport, the construction of separate cargo terminal in the coming days will be jointly discussed by the airport authority, KCCI and district administration.
D.C also said Dakshina Kannada district has the potential to rise to the top spot in the entire state.
