Yenepoya Medical College has planted rooftop solar panels over its five buildings which has a capacity of generating 498kW of solar power in the Deralakatte Campus. Vice Chancellor of the Yenepoya University M. Vijaykumar and Finance Director Farhaad Yenepoya was also present during the Inauguration said the Release from the University.
G. Shreekumar Menon (Registrar) said the plant is all set to generate six lakh units of energy annually, which in turn will save yearly running cost to approximately ₹25 for the university. This fund will be used for further developing the facilities and resources for the students present in the Medical College.
The installation is specially done in order to avoid the leakages in the roof and also helps to reduce the temperature during the Summer Season. which makes it less energy for the internal cooling and the release also said that this project falls within the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) subsidy scheme, which has a programme that extends financial support to the educational institutions to grab the Solar Energy. The system installed is on-grid were all the excess units of energy generated are fed back to the grid.
